Electioneering

  1. As a Canadian, I have some bad feelings about USA's elections. Your voting system can be rigged by a parti like «Retrumplicons» on many levels by changing the rules to make some of your voters harder to go and vote.

We have no such possibilities here as our voting system is led by the «General Election Commitee» which is a nutral commitee with no links to any of our 5 federal parties.

Tha is also our main difference as we have more choices than only two parties which is more polirizing the issues.

We don't have a President but a Prime Minister who has some powers as long as his politics are approved by the parliment. Even if today Trudeau is governing with a minority of deputies, he can do a lot when he has the help of one of the other parties in the chamber like the NDP or the Bloc Québécois.

The way politic is done here isn't like in USA.
We are less polirized and the personal attacks on our leaders are not welcome.

  2. I loathe the American political system; it is divisive, thoroughly corrupt, and an oligarchy in everything but name. It is one of the primary reasons we have seriously explored abandoning our U.S. citizenship and emigrating to another country, including Canada. We actually applied for status in Canada, and were granted provisional approval (of course we would have to secure stable employment beforehand). it's such a big step that we haven't taken the jump, but 2024 may be the final nail in the coffin of the United States.

    1. You are welcome in Canada and you're not the only Americans that are thinking of doing the same.
For jobs, I don't know in what fields of works you are but we have a real workers shortage on many jobs and surely with your resume you should be able to find a good paying job here.
Montreal is a nice place to live in even if you don't speak French as the cost of living is cheaper than in Toronto and more than Vancouver.

  3. FYI, this post was mostly tongue-in-cheek regarding how stupidly patriotic Americans get when you trot out a U.S. flag. Our leaders have worked for decades to dumb down the population to where they are easily manipulated through mechanisms of populism and unquestioning "patriotism" -- and it's worked perfectly as planned.
